Solar Power Solutions
Comprehensive IS 3043 and IEC 62305 compliant earthing, grounding, and lightning protection systems engineered for ground-mounted solar farms and rooftop solar installations — protecting your assets, people, and energy yield.
Why It Matters
Solar installations operate under unique electrical and environmental conditions that demand a robust, professionally engineered earthing system — not an afterthought.
Solar arrays generate high-voltage DC current. Without proper earthing, ground faults cause sustained DC arc flashes that are far more dangerous than AC faults, risking catastrophic equipment failure and fire.
Transient overvoltages and stray currents degrade power electronics, inverters, and monitoring systems over time. Proper earthing dissipates these surges before they cause cumulative damage, directly protecting ROI.
Central Electricity Authority (CEA) regulations mandate effective earthing at solar installations. Proper systems protect O&M staff from touch and step potential hazards — and keep projects compliant during audits.
Large open-field solar farms are highly exposed to direct and indirect lightning strikes. A properly bonded earthing network provides a low-impedance path that safely dissipates lightning energy away from PV modules and inverters.
Ground-Mounted Solar
Large-scale ground-mounted solar power plants spanning hectares require a rigorously engineered earthing network. Konnark designs perimeter and grid earthing systems that achieve low soil resistance across variable terrain, rocky strata, and high soil-resistivity zones common in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and the Deccan plateau.
Rooftop Solar
Rooftop solar installations on industrial sheds, commercial buildings, and residential complexes present unique earthing challenges — existing building earthing may be insufficient, and module mounting structures must be safely bonded to prevent stray voltages. Konnark engineers rooftop-specific systems that integrate seamlessly with existing building earthing without compromising structural integrity.
Solar PV Modules
Konnark sources and supplies solar PV modules across the 550W, 680W, and 725W range for residential, commercial, and industrial projects — supplied and coordinated alongside our earthing, grounding, and lightning protection scope so every installation is electrically safe from the first day of commissioning.
Suited to residential rooftops and small commercial installations where roof area is limited. Supplied with mounting-compatible frame profiles for standard MMS structures.
A balanced choice for commercial rooftops and C&I installations, offering higher yield per module footprint for both rooftop and ground-mounted layouts.
High-wattage modules for utility-scale, ground-mounted solar farms and large industrial rooftops, where fewer modules per MW reduce mounting structure and earthing conductor length.
Our Product Range
Every product in our solar earthing portfolio is tested to relevant IS and IEC standards, rated for extended outdoor service life, and backed by our technical team.
High-conductivity copper-bonded steel electrode with 99.9% pure copper cladding. Offers superior corrosion resistance in the chemically aggressive soils found across solar farm regions. Ideal for achieving sub-1 Ω earth resistance.
Hot-dip galvanised steel earthing electrode providing a cost-effective solution for rooftop solar and smaller C&I installations. Suitable for moderate soil corrosivity environments with periodic inspection protocols.
Non-corrosive, moisture-retentive bentonite-based backfill compound that dramatically reduces soil resistivity around earthing electrodes. Critical for solar sites in rocky, sandy, or laterite soil conditions prevalent in peninsular India.
Heavy-duty FRP and CI earth pit chambers designed for solar plant environments. UV-resistant, load-rated for vehicular traffic between rows, and marked for quick O&M identification. Includes an inspection window for resistance testing without chamber removal.
Early Streamer Emission (ESE) air terminal with up to 107m protection radius per NF C 17-102 / UNE 21186. A single ESE unit can protect multiple inverter stations and module fields, significantly reducing the number of conventional air terminals required.
Complete earthing kit supplied with electrode, backfill compound, earth pit chamber, and bonding hardware — everything required for a single earth pit installation at a solar plant, ready for quick deployment.
On-site earth resistance measurement using calibrated fall-of-potential and clamp-on test methods. Includes documented test report with readings, compliance status, and recommendations — suitable for CEA audits and lender inspections.
Down-conductor mounted event counter that logs each lightning discharge conducted to earth through the ESE air terminal, giving O&M teams a verifiable record for insurance claims and inspection compliance.
AC distribution board for grid-tie inverter output, housing MCBs, AC SPDs, and metering interfaces. Panels are supplied pre-wired and earthed to the plant's protective earthing network for straightforward commissioning.
DC combiner and distribution board for string inverter inputs, fitted with DC fuses, isolators, and Type 2 DC SPDs. Bonded to the earthing network to protect against DC-side ground faults and lightning-induced surges.
IP67-rated weatherproof DC connectors for module strings, rated for outdoor solar duty and reliable low-resistance connections. Supplied along with the module cabling scope for both rooftop and ground-mounted projects.
Bi-directional net metering solution supplied and coordinated with your DISCOM connectivity requirements, supporting accurate import-export measurement for grid-tied rooftop and ground-mounted solar plants.
Our Methodology
From initial soil testing to final commissioning, Konnark follows a rigorous, documentation-backed process that ensures your solar earthing system meets all regulatory and performance requirements from day one.
Wenner 4-pin soil resistivity testing across the entire plant footprint. Depth-wise analysis identifies resistivity variations and informs electrode selection, depth, and treatment requirements.
IS 3043 earthing network design with mesh calculations, touch and step potential analysis, lightning risk assessment per IEC 62305 Part 2, and SPD coordination study for all DC and AC circuits.
All electrodes, conductors, clamps, and SPDs are inspected and batch-tested against IS/IEC specifications before dispatch to site. Material test certificates are included in the project documentation package.
Electrodes are driven or bored to design depth. Backfill compound is applied in layers and compacted with water treatment. Earth pits are constructed with covers, inspection facility, and conductor lugs.
Earthing conductors are routed along cable trays and module structure to bond all MMS, inverters, transformers, and control panels to the earthing network using exothermic welding or listed mechanical connectors.
Earth resistance measured at all pits using Fall-of-Potential method. Continuity tests across the entire network. Test reports, as-built drawings, material certificates, and maintenance schedule are delivered at handover.
Regulatory Framework
All Konnark solar earthing systems are designed and installed in accordance with the following Indian and international standards, ensuring insurability and regulatory clearance.
Code of Practice for Earthing — the primary Indian standard governing earthing system design, material selection, and installation methodology for all electrical systems including solar.
International standard for Protection Against Lightning — covering risk management, physical damage, and protection of electrical and electronic systems against lightning electromagnetic impulse.
Central Electricity Authority Technical Standards for connectivity of distributed generation resources (including solar PV plants) to the grid, mandating effective protective earthing systems.
Low-voltage surge protective devices for AC (61643-11) and DC (61643-31) power installations — governing SPD selection, testing, and performance for PV string inverters and combiner boxes.
French and Spanish standards governing the design and testing of Early Streamer Emission (ESE) lightning arresters, widely referenced for ESE system approval across Indian solar projects.
Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Solar Energy Corporation of India EPC specifications require compliant earthing and lightning protection as a condition of commissioning approval for utility-scale projects.
